Species diversity Mekongga World Riveting

The team of researchers from the University of California-Davis, United States, fascinated by the diversity of biodiversity that they found in Mekongga Mountains, Southeast Sulawesi. From the results of the research while, the team concluded that Mekongga Mountains is one of the areas with the richest biodiversity in the world.

"During the research in Mekongga, we see diversity (biodiversity) is remarkable," says Professor Lynn Kimsey, Saturday (23/07/2011). Lynn is one of the entomologists (insect) which for the past month conduct joint research team from the Indonesian Institute of Science in the Mountains Mekongga.

Lynn added that during the research in the mountains located in Kolaka and North Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi, he managed to collect 100,000 samples of insects. Of that number, half are predicted Lynn is a new kind that has never encountered before.

Director of the Bohart Museum of UC-Davis also added, compared to some places that have examined, such as Chile, Panama, Papua, and Australia, the insects were found in Mekongga has a unique character. "For example, we found a giant bee in the world (along the 4 cm) are not found anywhere else," he said.

Over the past month, the combined team LIPI and UC-Davis is doing advanced research in the Mountains Mekongga within the framework of the International Cooperative Biodiversity Group-Indonesia, which has been ongoing since 2009. This study aimed to assess biodiversity Mekongga Mountains and saw the prospect of flora and fauna that can be used for pharmaceuticals, energy, disease or pest.

Mandrill Monkey Know How Pedicure

Scientists University of Durham, England, filmed a mandrill monkey peeling a twig and use it to clean toenails. They published the findings of a monkey "pedicure" at the Chester Zoo in the journal Behavioural Processes and quoted by the BBC on Friday (22/07/2011).

Mandrill is the fifth species of monkeys that appear to modify the tool. Apes, including chimpanzees and orangutans, can adjust the basic tools for specific jobs.

"This is a capability, which until a few years ago considered uniquely human," said Dr. Riccardo Pansini, who led the research.

Pansini make a recording while studying the relation of pressure and mandrill's behavior at the zoo. In the tape, a big male mandrill takes twigs and modify it to scrape dirt from under fingernails.

"Mandrill also seen cleaning the ear with a modification in the wild. This is thought to help prevent ear infections," Pansini said.

Two Meteor in Ramadan Night

Two meteor shower will peak on the nights of Ramadan precisely on Saturday, August 13, 2011, the Perseids meteor showers and Delta Aquarids. The second meteor shower will be equipped with a full moon, which unfortunately even interfere with vision to the meteor shower.

The team of researchers from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology led by Du Shengwang prove, a photon is always subject to Einstein's theory which states that nothing can travel faster than light. Thus, cross-time travel is only possible in science fiction stories.

Furthermore, Du said, "The evidence of this study could be a provision to end the debate about the speed of information that can be transported a photon".
